MEET SOME OF OUR VOLUNTEERS
I joined the Stroke Club as a volunteer in 2022, having suffered a stroke myself in 2016.
I am keen to share experiences with members and carers alike.
The idea of working within a gym environment, I think, provides a unique opportunity to exercise that part of ones body/limb which most requires some rehabilitation.
I find all of our members, carers and staff always cheerful and happy. I appreciate the difficulties experienced by ALL stroke victims - its something no-one can explain to anyone else, but we have to persevere.
I have seen improvement in the members since I've been involved, and believe in staying positive and passing this on to the members.
I have known Ted (the Chairman) for over 30 years, when he joined the club his positivity and enthusiasm struck a note with me. When I retired 8 years ago Ted constantly encouraged me to become a volunteer.
I am very glad that I did. I am now the Club's Secretary.
The key to our success is the positivity of everyone in the club, always welcoming, everybody equal and a place you can just have a chat with other likeminded people.
In the 8 years that I have been involved with the club the equipment has been updated for the benefit of our members with lots of support from outside sources.
I have never regretted my involvement with the club and value my contacts with all the members.
